Volunteer Advert:

Personal Assistant to Director of Houria

Become a Houria volunteer.

Model radical inclusion & belonging.

Make a real difference in your community.

Houria is a small, young, ambitious social enterprise that offers training, safe employment and a sense of belonging to women survivors of slavery in Bristol. We do this via a pan-African catering company that coaches and trains the women, as well as connecting them with supportive Allies and the wider community.

Our values are Empowerment, Sisterhood, Enterprise and Cooperation.

We are looking for a volunteer who will take up the essential role of being a Personal Assistant to our Founder and Director, Kim Prado. Applications from womxn identifying as black or brown will be granted extra consideration for this post.

The role will entail supporting Kim with tasks such as:

  • responding to email correspondence and phone calls

  • managing diaries and scheduling meetings and appointments

  • organising and maintaining systems, for example email and the shared drive

  • keeping Kim informed of updates in a timely and accurate manner

The role is ideal for someone who:

  • is a keen and experienced administrator;

  • has excellent communication skills;

  • has passion for systems and processes;

  • takes initiative and is self-motivated.

Commitment required:

  • 1 hour of check-in time with Kim per week. This may take more time at the start of the working relationship.

  • 3 hours of self-directed work.

  • You must have your own computer and be able to work remotely.

  • You must be based in Bristol.

The benefits of belonging to the Houria Sisterhood are many-fold. It is an opportunity to contribute to the anti-slavery cause in a tangible way. It is a chance to practice and promote anti-racism and assist the empowerment of a needed initiative in such a time as this. It is a rewarding way to be a part of a supportive, safe and compassionate community of womxn who want to see progress and healing take place through the joy of feasting.
